Breaking rocks in Pokemon Legends: Z-A requires some progress in the game. First, advance through the main story until you reach Wild Zone 1. This area opens up after completing initial tasks and unlocks new exploration options.
Once in Wild Zone 1, catch at least five Pokemon. These catches help build your team and are necessary for the next step. Head to the Research Lab after that, where you unlock the Pokemon Legends: Z-A rocksmash TM as part of the progression rewards.
Apply the Rock Smash TM to one of the Pokemon you caught in Wild Zone 1. Choose a compatible Pokemon that can learn the move to ensure it works properly. This equips your Pokemon with the ability needed for Pokemon Legends: Z-A how to smash rocks.
With the move taught, select the Pokemon in your party. Use the arrow buttons on the left controller to highlight it in the bottom left of the screen. Then, throw out the Pokemon near a rock you want to break.
